Morning Honey Chocolate Waffles

Good Morning! The chocolatey smell that filled my entire kitchen in the morning made it so worthwhile to venture away from a normal quick weekday breakfast. Just to make the morning even better, I made some espresso to accompany the honey chocolate waffles. These chocolate waffles are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, drizzled with honey and topped with homemade granola.

The recipe makes 12 Belgian-style waffles with the All-Clad Waffle Maker. Cut recipe in half to make 6 waffles.

Morning Honey Chocolate Waffles


  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 tbsp. of unsalted butter
  • honey for drizzling
  • granola for topping
  • cold whipped cream, if desired


  1. Preheat waffle maker on medium-high heat. If you use the All-Clad Belgian-style waffle maker, preheat to number 5. Preheat oven to 200F (used to keep waffles warm later).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla. Over a sheet of waxed paper, sift together flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  3. Add flour mixture to egg mixture and whisk until smooth.
  4. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine chocolate and butter. Heat, stir frequently, mixture over low heat until melted.
  5. Whisk the chocolate butter mixture into the batter until no lumps remain.
  6. Use a 1/3 measuring cup and scoop 1/3 batter into each well of the waffle maker. Be sure to pour the batter evenly in the well. Close the lid and heat until the waffles beep, 4 to 6 minutes.
  7. Transfer waffles to a wire rack on a baking sheet and keep warm in oven as more waffles cook.
  8. Drizzle waffles with honey and top them with granola. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
  9. Store leftover waffles in room temperature and bake until warm to reheat.
